Guatemalan President visits Santiago Atitlán
It was a gorgeous day when President Oscar Berger arrived by helicopter in Atitlán to celebrate the dedication of the new homes delivered to the families from Canton Panul, the victims of Hurricane Stan.
In this photo, President Berger is center, the architect in charge of the design to his left and Atitlán mayor Diego Esquina to his right. The traditional men’s red shirts were gifts to the President, Vice president, and architect from the mayor and council.
Berger greeted the happy families in their new houses and apologized for more the than two years it took for construction. 800 families are still waiting for completion of their homes.

Today in Guatemala City, Asociación K'aslimaal board member Karina Gezileus Bergstresser, and Club de Amigos' Nicolas Sapalú received the donation of ten computers for Hospitalito Atitlán from Asociación COED.

The computers have been installed with WINDOWS XP-Pro and Office XP, plus a Microsoft tutorial program. It is the donors hope that the computer network will serve the Hospitalito well and that all the staff will soon be computer literate.

Thanks to the Rotarians from Club Rotario Guatemala Oeste who helped
to make this possible.

First the good news. Club Rotario Guatemala Oeste of Guatemala City raised more than $15,000. for the Hospitalito with a raffle for a new Honda. This is the third annual raffle for a new car that this Rotary Club has sponsored with the funds benefiting Hospitalito Atitlán. The drawing held on Friday, Dec. 15th was a very well attended event. Hospitalito administrator Jose Reanda did a short presentation of photos of the Hospitalito. The event held at a Honda dealership was catered by the restaurant Las Cebollinas, spirits were served and a Vanna White look alike spun the tumbler with the numbers.

The bad news is that the winner of the beautiful new Honda CRV was not anyone who purchased a ticket in Santiago Atitlán from Lyn Dickey the treasurer of Asociación K'aslimaal. The funds will go toward a Rotary matching grant for new equipment for HA. Thank you for your help.

Last week, the entire staff at Hospitalito Atitlán was required to participate in a special course that had been in the planning for more than a year. I.N.T.E.C.A.P., the National Institute of Training, arrived to conduct a course on "Customer Service", adapted specifically toward patient care. There was a Power Point presentation and dramatizations, geared toward making the patient feel comfortable and cared for, especially important when they are not feeling well. Everyone learned from the experience, and patient care and employee moral have improved. In this foto, Chonita Mendoza greets a patient (guardian Antonio Quieju). It was a great practice for our medical team.
